January has been a busy month getting back in to our routines and finishing up units. We will be having a test in Science on our Habitats and Community unit in the next week. We have been working hard on our Daily 5. I was very pleased to hear that some of my students were reading books over their holidays -Way to Go!
Happy Birthday to Devin on January 23.
Our February is going to be a very busy month.
December
This year my students wrote two versions of an acrostic poem, the first one is a traditional Christmas acrostic poem and the second version represents our class Christmas wishes.
We have been working on some art to display in the hallways and of course always working hard on the academics.
We hope you can make it out to our Christmas Concert.
We wish you all a safe and merry Christmas,
Love Grade 3 & 4
November
November was a very busy month for grades 3 and 4.
We are busily working on the Mathletics program where students can practise the Manitoba math curriculum in a fun and engaging way on the computer. Students can also do this from their home if you have the Internet.
We are still working hard on our Daily 5. I am pleased with how my students are doing.
I did the provincial Testing in Language Arts and Math. Most First Nations Schools have started this or are just beginning to participate in the program. Our school was one of the first, First Nations Schools to participate, We entered our marks last year as well. The testing is only done in grade 3, grade 7 and grade 8. The grade 3 testing deadline was November 30, grade 7 and 8 do their reporting in the spring. If you have any questions or would like to see some of the things we do to record data come on in. Grade 3s will have the report in their spring report card. I was fortunate enough to go to Winnipeg on December 3 & 4 where MFMERC held a round table for all First Nations Schools that are beginning to participate in this program. I presented the ideas and activities we do in math in our classroom, another teacher did a presentation on her Language Arts. It was very interesting and educational.
We held our annual Remembrance Day Service on November 9th, thank you to all the parents that came to our our service.
We a fun and very successful Spirit Week.
We would like to welcome a new student to our classroom. His name is Fenton French.

Sometimes we read to the little ones in our school. |
Working on our math, hands-on-activities are one of the key components of our math program. It is important to move from concrete to abstract.

Daily 5
I am very pleased to let everyone know that my students have increased their reading stamina to 20 minutes. My students have noticed that they are getting better at reading and the most important part is that my students are finding that they are enjoying reading. Reading to someone is also a part of our Daily 5.
We are working on word work - everyone has their own individual spelling list of words, they practise these words using white boards, wikki sticks, markers and coloured papers, magnetic letters, or any other way they choose. When they are ready they take their test.
Listening - another one of the Daily 5 is done by listening to and following the text that is read. We have several websites that our students listen to.
This month our school was working on the first of the 7 teachings. We were learning about Respect.
We have a bulletin board posted in the hallway please stop in and see it.
We had a very successful Terry Fox Run. Errol cut a new trail for us that ran along the edge of the school grounds then out to the road and we continued down to the Pow Wow grounds. It was a beautiful day for a run.
